PROJECT 457  /  THE ORIGIN OF THE MYTH

ENGLISH. 457 is the Ruzza Torino research project dedicated to the origins of the 500's myth.
The history of the 500 begins in 1936 with the sale of the first FIAT generation, popularly renamed "Topolino", while the second comes in 1957, then popularly "Cinquino": the latter introduces a new concept of car, very minimalist, but not wants to betray the first, much loved by the public.
On October 18, 1955, at the gates of Turin, at the hunting lodge of Stupinigi, the production of the car was decided and it was given the provisional name of "400", then re-engineered as "450" and finally baptized as "New 500": "57" is the year of production start, and that's why Ruzza Torino chose for this project the name of "457", because it summarizes the transition of the "400" and "450" projects into the fusion of the two generations of 500 that gave birth to the famous Italian myth.
The numerical coincidences are also strengthened by the fact that the merger of the generations was completed with the placing of the car on the market on 1957, July the 4th. All subsequent generations of the 500 continued to recall this conceptual merger.
